Mesothelioma Claim

Stephen's client in this case was the widow of a man who died of mesothelioma, a disease caused by exposure to asbestos.

When he first started to suffer with chest problems, it was suspected that he had a chest infection and when the problems persisted, lung cancer was diagnosed.  It was only after his death when a post mortem was carried out that it was discovered the cause of death was actually mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos many years before.

Stephen managed to trace the man's former employer responsible for the negligent exposure to asbestos and despite the fact that they had long-ceased trading he recovered a substantial sum in compensation for the man's widow.

Slipped at work

In this case, Stephen's client was an auxiliary nurse working in a hospital.  Her job involved attending to patients on a ward throughout the night when the ward was in darkness.  Night-lights had been used in the past but had been discontinued by the time the client had her accident.

She was walking through the ward when she slipped on some liquid spilled on the floor and fractured her hip meaning that she was absent from work for several months.

Stephen successfully made a claim against the NHS trust the lady worked for and recovered £20,000 compensation for her which included a sum for her lost earnings.  Following this accident, the hospital re-instated the night -lights in an attempt to prevent similar accidents.

Manual Handling Injury

Stephen's client in this case was a man injured at work whilst pushing a heavy cage.  The cage was fully loaded and as the man pushed it along, one of the wheels collapsed causing the cage to spin and jarred the man's back.

The accident aggravated a pre-existing back condition and left him unable to work.  His employer terminated his employment.

Stephen secured almost £90,000 compensation for the injured man which took into account his future lost earnings.
