Successful Personal Injury Claims

Below you will find just a few examples of some of the personal injury compensation claims James has dealt with from the Bristol office.

Brain Injury from Car Accident

James' client in this case was a 16 year old boy who was a rear seat passenger in a car being driven by a friend. The friend was driving at speed and lost control of the car hitting a wall and a lamppost. James' client suffered multiple serious injuries and at first it looked unlikely that he would survive. He had multiple skull fractures, a brain haemorrhage, a collapsed lung and a fractured eye socket. The injuries to his brain caused him to develop epilepsy, memory problems, concentration problems, anger management problems and vision problems.

The boy's father made a claim for him with help from James at Thompsons' Bristol office and he received nearly £1m compensation to provide the ongoing care he needed for the rest of his life.

Fatal Road Accident involving Cyclist

James' client in this case was the widow of a man who was killed whilst cycling home from work.  The driver of the car which hit him was found to have over double the legal limit of alcohol in his system and was convicted for this as well as for causing death by dangerous driving.  He was sent to prison.

The cyclist unfortunately left behind a wife and three children, one of which was under the age of ten.

James successfully recovered over quarter of a million pounds for the family and although no amount of money would ever compensate them for the loss of their husband and father, it did provide some financial security for them after his death.

Accident resulted in Amputation

In this case James' client was a construction worker who was injured whilst trying to lock up the building site at the end of the working day.  He was in a confined space when he slipped on a muddy ladder and fell, fracturing his leg and ankle.

He underwent several operations to try and repair the badly injured leg but they were unsuccessful and when an infection developed he had to have his leg amputated below the knee.

Following his accident, his employer made changes to the procedures for locking up to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future.

James made a personal injury claim for compensation against the man's employer and recovered £335,000 compensation for him which took into account his predicted future lost earnings.
