Successful Serious Injury Claims
Below, you will find just a small selection of some of the personal injury claims Samantha has dealt with in the Leeds office.
Burn Injury Compensation Claim
Samantha's client in this case was a man who was badly burned in an accident at work in a foundry. The man was standing on a platform when molten iron spilled down onto it engulfing him with steam and smoke.
He suffered 65% burns in the accident and was medically put into a coma to ease his immediate suffering. His legs were so badly burned that amputation was considered but after numerous lengthy operations this was not necessary.
He has permanent scars from the accident and was unable to return to work in the foundry because of the psychological damage his injury caused.
Samantha successfully made a personal injury claim for her client arguing that the work equipment was faulty and that the system of work was unsafe. She recovered a substantial sum of compensation for the injured man which he was very happy with.
Fall from height at work
In this case, Samantha's client was a scaffolder who was injured at work when the platform he was standing on collapsed. He fell 20 feet and suffered a serious brain injury so bad that his family were initially told he was unlikely to survive.
Following the accident the injured man couldn't walk, talk or use his limbs. He received physiotherapy and speech and language therapy which have helped somewhat and he can now talk and walk with help; however, he will never be able to live independently and will always need 24 hour care.
It transpired that the accident had been caused due to the incorrect bolts being used to construct the scaffolding and Samantha successfully made a claim for compensation against the company responsible. Samantha obtained interim payments to fund a specially adapted bungalow with a hydro-therapy pool for the client together with the 24 hour care he needed before settling the claim fully. The final sum of compensation was substantial and took into account that the man in his 20's would need care for the rest of his life.
