Successful Personal Injury Claims
Below, you will find just a small selection of some of the personal injury compensation claims Mark has dealt with in the Liverpool office.
Seriously injured at work
Mark's client in this case was a young man employed within the construction industry who suffered catastrophic and life-changing injuries in an accident at work. He was hit by an excavator which was travelling along railway lines and was pushed along the lines by the vehicle for quite some distance.
The man who was only in his 20's suffered fractures to his spine and internal injuries which are progressive and irreversible. The injuries caused constant, permanent pain meaning that he has to take medication for the rest of his life and possibly face surgery in the future.
His employers accepted liability but were not willing to offer a fair amount of compensation so court proceedings were issued. Before the trial took place Mark managed to negotiate a sum of compensation in excess of £1 million which his client was happy with.
Stairs without handrail cause paraplegia
In this case Mark's client was a woman who was spending the night at a friend's house. When she woke up in the middle of the night to use the toilet which was downstairs, she couldn't find a light switch to illuminate the stairs. She got to the bottom safely in the dark and then after using the toilet looked for a light switch before climbing back up. Again she couldn't see a switch so tried to climb the stairs in darkness.
Near the top of the stairs she lost her footing and fell backwards. There was no banister to grab onto and she landed on the floor, suffering broken ribs, a broken vertebrae and spinal cord damage. The accident left her paraplegic and needing to use a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
The defendants denied liability in this case but Mark fought hard arguing that the stairs were unsafe and he managed to obtain a six figure sum of compensation for his client. This will make a significant difference and will enable her to improve the quality of her day to day life.
Trampoline Accident resulted in Amputation
Mark's client in this case was a woman who injured her knee whilst at a trampoline class at her local sports centre. Despite it being her first time at the class, she was instructed to carry out a complicated manoeuvre and landed awkwardly on her knee.
Her knee was fractured and the blood vessels were damaged beyond repair. Her leg had to be amputated below the knee.
After first denying liability, the defendants made an offer of compensation when Mark started preparing the case for court. Mark rejected their initial offer and managed to negotiate a settlement of £500,000 which was more than double the amount of the original offer.
