Tony Hood

Senior Asbestos Solicitor in Newcastle

Tony Hood is a senior asbestos solicitor based in Thompsons Solicitors' Newcastle office.  During the last decade he has specialised exclusively in handling personal injury claims for victims of asbestos related diseases such as asbestosis, mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and pleural thickening.

Tony dealt with the first successful third generation exposure asbestos-related claim on behalf of a woman who was exposed to asbestos from her grandfather's work clothes.

The average life expectancy after a diagnosis of mesothelioma is less than a year. Tony uses his skill and experience to press for settlement of claims for mesothelioma victims within their lifetime which provides peace of mind that their loved ones will be financially secure after their death.

Tony has a genuine passion for the job that he does and takes pride in fighting for justice for innocent workers and their families, negligently exposed to asbestos by their employers.

Successful Asbestos Claims

Below, you will find just a small selection of some of the personal injury compensation claims Tony has dealt with in the Newcastle office.

Dockyard worker diagnosed with mesothelioma

In this case Tony's client was a man who had worked in dockyards most of his life and had been negligently exposed to asbestos by his employers.

After developing breathing problems and an unexplained pain in his side he was sent for x-rays which revealed fluid on his lungs.  Further tests were carried out and he was diagnosed as suffering from mesothelioma which is a terminal illness and is caused only by exposure to asbestos.

Tony made a claim for compensation on his client's behalf which was settled in just 9 weeks.  The client was then able to live out what time remained for him with the peace of mind that his family were provided for financially.

Mesothelioma caused by exposure to grandfather's work clothes

Tony's client in this case was Michelle Campbell who was diagnosed with mesothelioma when she was only 45 years old. Mesothelioma is always fatal. As symptoms of mesothelioma do not normally begin until on average 30 to 40 years after the exposure to asbestos, Michelle was unusually young to develop the disease.

After researching Michelle's life history in detail Tony discovered that she had been exposed to asbestos as a child through the work clothes of her grandfather. Her grandfather worked at Portsmouth Docks for over 40 years and would regularly visit Michelle's house whilst still wearing his work clothes which were covered with asbestos dust.

Tony fought the case successfully and recovered £140,000 compensation for Michelle and her family. It was the first ever successful third generation exposure asbestos-related claim.

Feedback from clients

An extract from a thank-you letter recently received by Thompsons Solicitors said:

"With reference to my dealings with Thompsons Solicitors in connection with the death of my husband, George due to Asbestos Related Illness, I would like it to go on record that the dealings I have had over the past several months with your representative Mr Anthony Hood have been absolutely exemplary from start to finish!  Not only did Mr Hood keep me fully informed at every stage but his courtesy and manner at all times was second to none.

As you can no doubt imagine this has been a very distressing time for me because as well as George being my husband of 56 years he was also my best friend and it was with some trepidation I entered legal proceedings.  Right from the first visit of Mr Hood to my home he put me immediately at ease and any doubts I had were quickly dispelled.  I have to say without any hesitation that as a representative for Thompsons he is first rate - a true gentleman.  I shall have no hesitation in recommending both Thompsons and Mr Hood if asked to do so."
