Fall from ladder

Lynn's client in this case was a woman who was injured whilst using a ladder at work.  She was trying to reach the top shelf of a cupboard which could only be reached by using a ladder.  The cupboard was only a very small space and was extremely full, making movement difficult.  She lost her footing and fell to the floor.

Lynn's client suffered sprained ligaments in both her ankles and Lynn was successful in recovering compensation for her client.

Her employer then also took the decision to remove the top shelf from the cupboard to avoid similar accidents happening again.

Manual Handling Injury

In this case, Lynn's client was a nursing assistant who was asked to help a staff nurse in mobilising a patient using physical intervention techniques.  Normal procedures specify that 4 members of staff should be involved with a manoeuvre like this but on this occasion there were only two of them.

The patient in question was not co-operating with the nurses and they had to support his weight for some time.  The client felt an immediate pain in her back and was diagnosed with a severe strain to the soft tissues and an injury to her spine.

Lynn was successful in recovering compensation for this injured woman and after her accident the care plan for the patient who caused her injuries was amended to remove the use of physical intervention to avoid a similar accident happening to someone else.
