Thompsons solicitors celebrate 90th anniversary of fighting for workers’ rights

Thompsons has a network of branches throughout the UK

A long-standing firm of solicitors with branches in Cardiff and Swansea who are UK leaders in their field will be celebrating their 90th anniversary during an event at the Millennium Stadium on Friday, November 25.

Thompsons Solicitors, whose Cardiff office is based on Newport Road, has grown from a two-person office in London in 1921 to one of the UK’s most experienced law firms with over a thousand members of staff and a network of offices nationwide.

The Cardiff office was established 45 years ago in 1966 and over the years has played a central role in making Thompsons the most experienced personal injury law firm in the UK. With an office in Swansea which opened in 2005 the firm has lead the way in all aspects of personal injury law, working with trade unions to establish rights for injured people and to ensure those injured get the maximum compensation.

Fighting for the rights of injured people

Thompsons’ expertise has seen test cases establish the right to compensation for those suffering from asbestos related illnesses, miners with pneumoconiosis and workers suffering from industrial deafness.

Although much has changed for working people since Thompsons was established in 1921 the firm's principles and values remain the same. The firm has only ever acted for injured people and on principle won't act for insurance companies.

Thompsons has specialist teams of solicitors who are acknowledged experts in their field and passionate about what they do. These include serious injury, asbestos disease, road accident and clinical negligence teams.

Celebration at Millennium Stadium

Almost 150 staff from Thompsons’ Cardiff, Swansea, Bristol and Plymouth offices will gather at the Millennium Stadium on Friday, November 25, to celebrate the last 90 years.

Among the guests will be Paul O’Shea, UNISON Wales Regional Secretary, Joanne Kaye, UNISON South West Regional Secretary, GMB National President Sheila Bearcroft and RMT National President Alex Gordon.

National Assembly for Wales Members Mick Antoniw and Vaughan Gething, both former Thompsons partners, will also be in attendance.

Ian Bounds, client manager at Thompsons Cardiff said: “Thompsons was established in 1921 to fight for workers rights, it's what we did then and what we do today. Working conditions may have changed over the years but Thompsons’ resolve to ensure injured people receive proper compensation is as relevant and as vital as ever.

“This anniversary event is a chance for us to reward our staff for their hard work over the years and to celebrate our 90th year with regional clients, many of whom we have acted for since the Cardiff office was established.”

Press photographers are welcome to attend the event at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on Friday, November 25th at 1.30pm.
