Fatal Cyclist Accident

Pay attention to cyclists in winter months

Cyclists are at greater risk as the winter months are upon us, and the dangers were highlighted by the tragic death of a cyclist in Stockton on Tees.

On Friday 18 November 2011 on a busy rural road, Darlington Back Lane, which links Stockton with Sadberge, a cyclist was knocked off his bike by a passing motorist. As a result of the accident the cyclist sustained fatal injuries.

David Robinson, a specialist serious injuries solicitor who regularly manages fatal accident claims and who lives only a short distance from the accident location, said: “My condolences go to the family and friends of the cyclist. Motorists need to pay attention to cyclists at all times but particularly as the winter months bring more difficult driving conditions with lower visibility”.

David has recently worked with a local school in Stockton on Tees in his role as Secretary of local brain injury charity Headway Teesside to raise awareness of cycle safety. David said further: “Motorists need to be aware and cyclists need to be careful in case they aren’t. Awareness of both cyclists and motorists is essential to reduce accidents of this nature and their inevitable devastating effects”.
