Hit in head with Iron bar

Our client in this case was at work at the time of his accident.  He was employed as a reception assistant at a secure hospital and had to inspect delivery wagons entering and leaving the premises.

The driver of a delivery wagon pulled aside the curtains on the wagon but as our client was inspecting the contents, the driver let go of the curtain and a heavy iron bar which was attached, hit our client in the head.

He immediately suffered dizziness, blurred vision and severe pain as well as extreme tiredness and nausea.   He went back to work but had to cut his hours back sharply as he continued to suffer from chronic headaches, an inability to concentrate and out of character behaviour.

Over the next two years, Mr Prince was shifted around departments and tried a variety of tasks, but was unable to cope with the work and his employer eventually agreed to retire him on the grounds of ill health.

Mr Prince still suffers from severe headaches, anxiety symptoms, poor sleep, poor appetite, lack of concentration, mood swings and quick loss of temper. He finds it impossible to socialise, leave the house, or answer the phone without the assistance of his wife, and is reliant on anti-depressants.

Car Accident caused head injury

The injured client in this case was a 16 year old boy who was a rear seat passenger in a car which collided with a lamppost.  He wasn't wearing his seatbelt and the force of the impact threw him out of the rear window of the vehicle and onto the ground.

His injuries were immediately severe including an epileptic seizure, multiple fractures of the skull and a brain haemorrhage which led to him being in intensive care for 10 days. There have also been long term consequences, the most severe of which was that he was no longer able to manage his own affairs due to his brain injury.

Although he tried to return to work four months after the accident it became clear after only a few weeks he could not continue due to his inability to concentrate. After a series of seizures he was readmitted to hospital with continuing memory loss, concentration impairment, loss of confidence, travel anxiety and anger, frustration and depression. All of these had been caused by the injury to the brain. The final settlement of £950,000 reflected an agreed long term need for care, a reduced life expectancy reduced by 14 years and a life long dependency on anti epilepsy medication. Heavy object fell from height

In this case, our client was a welder who was fitting a new handrail to a staircase when a metal post fell from 15 ft above him and hit him on the head.  He was immediately knocked unconscious and suffered memory loss, a fractured skull, broken nose and soft tissue injuries to his neck and spine. He was kept in hospital for nine days.

Thompsons Solicitors recovered a substantial, undisclosed sum of compensation for the man who had been unable to return to work when his compensation was recovered almost 2 years after the accident.
