About Organic Hydrocarbons

Information about Organic Hydrocarbons

Hydrocarbons are substances composed largely of hydrogen and carbon. They are the principal constituents of petroleum and natural gas. Hydrocarbons are also used in plastics, paraffin, waxes, fertilizers and oils.  They are frequently used in industry as solvents. Examples include benzene, toluene, propane, butane, methane, ethylene and acetylene. A person may be exposed to hydrocarbons whilst at work if they have not been issued with the necessary protective clothing and members of the public could be exposed to it due to inadequate safety measures during disposal / incineration.

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) are one type of hydrocarbon.

If you have been injured by Hydrocarbons you may be able to make a Hydrocarbon Poisoning Compensation Claim.

Prevention of Hydrocarbon Poisoning

Hydrocarbon Poisoning can be prevented

There are detailed regulations in place which are designed to protect all workers from exposure to chemicals and other substances in the workplace and these are called “The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations” or COSHH for short. This means that employers need to assess the risk to workers and make efforts to reduce exposure.

If a person believes they have been harmed by an exposure to Hydrocarbons at work or in the environment, then they may be entitled to make a personal injury compensation claim.
