Asbestos victim’s search for former workmates
Did you work with Ronald D'Abreu from Hertfordshire
A retired electrician is calling for his former workmates to come forward after he was diagnosed with asbestos related cancer.Ronald D’Abreu, 71, from Broxbourne in Hertfordshire is suffering from mesothelioma, a cancer of the lung caused by exposure to asbestos.
There is no cure for the disease which can develop decades after being exposed to asbestos.
Mr D’Abreu has instructed mesothelioma claim specialists Thompsons Solicitors for advice.
Exposed to asbestos while working in construction industry
He worked in the construction industry for 40 years where the use of asbestos in building materials was commonplace.
Mr D’Abreu wants to hear from any of his former workmates who may have more information about the conditions he worked in or the materials that were used on specific jobs.
He is particularly interested in speaking to anyone who worked with him at a number of South East based contracting businesses between 1964 and 2004 including:
Haden Young Ltd from 1964 to 1968
Metro Electrical Ltd at Heathrow Terminal 4 and Archway Employment Office from 1983 to 1989
Taylor Keenan Ltd from 1969 to 1971
George Taylor & Co Ltd from 1971 to 1973
Mathew Hall Ltd at Heathrow Terminal 3, Hatfield University and Ashdown House in Victoria from 1996 to 2004
Diagnosed with asbestos cancer
Before his illness Mr D’Abreu was fit and healthy. In February 2009, he visited his GP after having difficulties breathing. A few weeks later he was diagnosed with asbestos cancer.
He said: “I was totally dumbstruck when told the diagnosis and my whole family are devastated. I have always been fit and healthy. There is no doubt that my job as an electrician is where my contact with asbestos occurred. I was never given any advice or information on asbestos in all the years I worked as an electrician. I would really like to hear from any former workmates who can help me fill in the details.”
Tim Hayward from Thompsons Solicitors said: “It is important to Mr D’Abreu that anyone who remembers working with him on construction projects across the South East should get in touch.”
