Delayed diagnosis of breast cancer
Linda's client in this case was a woman who suffered a delayed diagnosis of breast cancer. For more than 5 years she was told by a general surgeon that a lump she had found in her breast was nothing to worry about.
It was only when her condition worsened to the point that she was in constant pain and struggling to complete normal daily tasks that she was sent for a biopsy and scan. Not only had the lump been cancer all along but the delayed diagnosis had allowed the cancer to spread to other parts of her body.
Radiotherapy was carried out together with other treatments but she sadly died and left behind a young family. Linda successfully made a claim for clinical negligence compensation against the surgeon and recovered over half a million pounds. Although the money could never make up for the loss of their mother, it did provide some financial security for the family.
Mesothelioma Compensation
In this case, Linda's client was a man who had been negligently exposed to asbestos by his former employers both during and shortly after completing his apprenticeship. He was only a young man at the time and was sent to work on the construction and maintenance of boiler houses where asbestos was used to lag the pipes.
As is typical with asbestos-related diseases, it was decades later when the man started developing health problems and was diagnosed first with pleural thickening and later with mesothelioma which is a terminal illness.
Linda worked hard in this case and was able to recover compensation for her client within his lifetime which at least gave him peace of mind that his family would be financially secure after his death.
Clinical Negligence resulted in Fatality
Linda's client in this case was the young widow of a man who died as a result of clinical negligence and left behind a wife and young child.
When he became ill, he visited hospital and was seen by medical staff who failed to recognise that his condition was serious. The urgent treatment he needed was therefore not given and he died just a few hours later.
The hospital admitted that the care the man received was inadequate and Linda was successful in recovering over a quarter of a million pounds for the young family left behind.
