Successful Accident at Work Claims
Below, you will find just a small selection of some of the accident at work compensation claims Sarah has dealt with in the Stoke-on-Trent office.
Needlestick Injury
Sarah's client in this case was at work when he picked up a plastic rubbish bag to dispose of it. A discarded syringe penetrated the bag and stuck into the man's arm. The wound itself was painful and bled for quite a while afterwards but the worst part for the man was the agonising wait (sometimes up to 12 months) to find out if he had contracted any blood-borne viruses such as HIV or Hepatitis.
The man worked in a medical environment where sharps bins should have been used. No syringes or other sharps should ever have been placed in a plastic bin bag.
Sarah recovered compensation from the man's employer in this case.
Manual Handling Injury
In this case Sarah's client was a woman injured at work in a hospital. The woman was employed as a Health Care Support Worker and was helping a Staff Nurse to move a large patient from a chair into bed.
During the manoeuvre the patient fell onto the bed, grabbing Sarah's client's arm as he went down. Sarah's client suffered muscle damage to her shoulder, neck and arm.
Sarah made a claim against the client's employer as a patient assessment had already shown that a hoist should be used for this patient and no-one had passed this information to Sarah's client. She was successful in recovering several thousand pounds compensation.
