Successful Personal Injury Claims

Below, you will find just a small selection of some of the personal injury compensation claims Karl has dealt with in the Wolverhampton office.

Crushed in Accident at Work

Karl's client in this case was a man who was injured in an accident at work.  He was working on a large machine when the steel door of the machine trapped him against a wall.  The man suffered crush injuries to his abdomen and had to be airlifted to hospital.

The man was kept in hospital for 6 weeks and was absent from work even longer.  Karl recovered £300,000 compensation for the man and he was very happy with the outcome.

Multi-Party Claim for Respiratory Disease

In this case, Karl made personal injury claims for numerous members of the same workforce employed at Powertrain, the engine building division of MG Rover, Birmingham.

Contaminated metalworking fluid had caused 101 employees to develop various respiratory conditions such as asthma, extrinsic allergic alveolitis and bronchitis etc.

This was an extremely complicated case to deal with which required evidence from medical experts, occupational hygienists, microbiologists and epidemiologists. The case was set for a 7 week trial but the defendants eventually made offers to settle. Damages of approximately £1m were agreed.

The outbreak led to change in legislation relating to the control of hazardous substances and led to a change to the prescribed disease regulations.

Head Injury caused by Accident at Work

In this case, Karl's client was a woman who was injured at work whilst supervising the dismantling of a large advertising board.

It was a windy day and while the board was being dismantled a gust of wind caught a piece of the board and it was blown through the air and impacted with the back of the woman's head.

She needed 3 operations as a result of the accident at work and was left with permanent neck pain and some psychological problems.

Hit by Heavy Object at Work

Karl's client in this case was a man who suffered serious injuries to his leg after an accident at work.  The man was working when a heavy object fell from a hoist above him and landed on his leg.

The accident caused a nasty fracture and his specialists predicted that he would develop arthritis in the future as a result.

Karl negotiated hard in this case and recovered £60,000 compensation for the injured man.  His compensation took into account that he may have to retire earlier than he planned because of the leg injury.
