How much will I have to pay my Solicitor?

If Thompsons Solicitors deal with your personal injury compensation claim, we will recover our legal fees from the person responsible for your injury or their insurers. This means that you would not pay anything out of your own pocket to your solicitor.

We will also not deduct anything for our services from the compensation you are awarded and will not ask you to take out a loan to fund your personal injury claim.

This service is a genuine cost-free service.  The only exceptions being:

  • In exceptional clinical negligence cases there may be medical expert evidence on your medical records needed to establish whether you have a clinical negligence claim. Before we incur the costs of any medical expert evidence that might fall to you to pay we will agree with you the exact costs to be spent, the timing of payments, the reasons those costs need to be spent and the risks involved. We would not spend any money without your agreement. When medical expert evidence supports your clinical negligence claim and we pursue your claim successfully we can recover all of your costs.
  • If your claim has to be pursued outside the Courts of England and Wales, we cannot guarantee a no cost service because different rules apply. Each case will be reviewed on its own merits and appropriate advice will be provided before any costs are incurred.
  • In CICA cases legal costs are not paid by the CICA and public funding is not normally available. If we can assist with a criminal injury case an appropriate charging arrangement will be agreed with you at the outset of the claim. We will explain fully how our charging system works before asking you to sign an agreement.

What costs do I pay if I win my claim for compensation?

Thompsons Solicitors offer you a completely cost-free service, whether you win or lose your personal injury claim. We will not charge you a penny and will not deduct anything for our services from your compensation. We will also never ask you to take out a loan to finance your personal injury claim.

No, you would not have to pay the other Solicitor’s costs if you lose your personal injury claim. At Thompsons Solicitors, whether you win or lose, we offer you a completely cost-free, risk-free service and we will not deduct anything for our services from your compensation.

What does “No Win, No Fee” really mean?

Literally speaking, the term “No Win, No Fee”, means that if you do not win your claim for compensation, then you do not have to pay your Solicitors fees.

Despite popular opinion, “No Win, No Fee” does not always mean that your claim is being dealt with on a completely cost-free basis as the phrase does not mention what fees you would need to pay if you won your claim for compensation.

Unfortunately, the term “No Win, No Fee” has often been adopted by unscrupulous solicitors or claims management companies to mislead their clients into thinking that the service is cost-free. When the injured person’s claim is successful, their solicitor then issues them with an invoice or deducts a percentage of their compensation.
