Cyclist Killed on North East Road
Cyclist hit by HGV
The dangers faced by cyclists from a lack of awareness by some motorists has been highlighted following another death.
The tragedy occurred on the North East road when Christopher Griffiths was hit by an HGV on the A19 between Hartlepool and Middlesbrough on Monday 23 January 2012. Mr Griffiths sustained serious injuries and lost his life. It is reported that the HGV driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released on police bail.
David Robinson, a Solicitor who specialises in serious injuries and fatal accidents, and who is based in Middlesbrough working for national firm Thompsons Solicitors, said: “My sincere condolences go out to Mr Griffiths’ family and friends. The impact of any death in a family is huge but when a life is taken in these circumstances the effect on the whole family is immense. This tragic case serves to highlight once more the awareness drivers; especially those in large vehicles should have for their surroundings and for there to be particular attention paid to cyclists”.
